Exhaust System - Tail Pipe Rattle

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Tail pipe may become loose and contact the frame causing a rattle.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect the tail pipe for any signs of contact with the frame rails or any other components. If signs of contact are present, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves removing the Torca type flat exhaust clamp and installing two saddle/U bolt type exhaust clamps at each location.

1. Remove the bolts from the Torca type clamps at the front of the catalytic convertor and the muffler.
2. Remove the strap by bending it upward to break the spot weld at the top. It may be necessary to use a chisel to break the weld.

 

3. Align the exhaust system to provide clearance to the frame or other components and install two exhaust clamps per connection as shown. Tighten the clamp nuts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
