NO: 08-05-96

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: Feb. 16, 1996

SUBJECT:
Radio Diagnosis

MODELS:
1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

DISCUSSION:

Some vehicles are equipped with remote radio switches. These switches or wiring (clock spring) can cause symptoms that in the past may have been internal radio problems. If radio symptoms occur that involve any of the remote radio switch functions, be sure to check the switches and clock spring prior to sending the radio out for repair. Remote radio switch diagnosis can be found on page 8F-5 in the 1996 Grand Cherokee Service Manual.

Some of the symptoms that could occur as a result of malfunctioning remote switches are:

- stations changing with no switch input

- radio memory presets not working properly

- volume changes with no switch input

- switch buttons taking on other functions (volume switch changes stations)

- CD player skips tracks

- remote switch inoperative
